  • Cine Employees’ Body Calls For Banning Turkish Shows On Netflix, Prime Video

The development comes after Turkiye criticised India’s strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged streaming platforms, including Netflix, Prime Video and JioHotstar, to boycott Turkish shows following the country’s support to Pakistan amid heightened tensions with India.

In a statement, released on Thursday, the organisation said they stand “firmly for the interest of the nation and industry”.

“We are writing to express our serious concern and strong objection regarding the continued streaming and promotion of Turkish shows on various Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms operating in India.

“As is well known, Turkey has consistently extended diplomatic and political support to Pakistan on matters that are detrimental to India’s sovereignty and national interest, including on sensitive issues such as Kashmir,” the FWICE said.

The union body, which represents workers, technicians, and artists from 36 different crafts working in the Indian media and entertainment industry, further said it is not in India’s best interest to allow the content of a nation that does not support its territorial integrity to be consumed widely by Indian audiences.

The FWICE urged the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to consider taking necessary action to boycott or restrict the streaming of Turkish television shows and films on Indian OTT platforms.

“Such a step will not only send a strong message globally but also encourage the promotion of Indian content and support the large workforce of our domestic entertainment industry. We hope the Ministry will take cognizance of this matter with the seriousness it deserves and initiate appropriate steps in the national interest,” it said.

Turkish dramas such as Binbir Gece, As the Crow Flies, Another Self, Yabani, Terzi, Ethos, and Creature gained popularity in India in early 2000s.

The development comes after Turkiye criticised India’s strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. Islamabad had also used Turkish drones in the conflict.

Following its support to Pakistan, calls for boycotting Turkish goods and tourism have surfaced across India, with online travel platforms like EaseMyTrip and Ixigo issuing advisories against visiting the country.

  • All About Eli Cohen, Popular Mossad Spy Publicly Hanged By Syria 60 Years Ago

In 2019, Netflix released The Spy, a limited series dramatising Eli Cohen’s years-long undercover operation in Syria

Once upon a time in Damascus, Kamal Amin Thaabet moved freely among Syria’s elite, trusted and unseen. But behind the carefully built persona was Eli Cohen, an Israeli spy feeding crucial secrets to his homeland. Sixty years ago, his double life ended with a public execution.

This week, Israel retrieved thousands of items linked to Cohen from a covert Syrian archive.

    Who Was Eli Cohen?

Born in 1924 in Alexandria, Egypt, to Syrian Jewish parents, Eli Cohen was no ordinary man. His fluency in Arabic, English, and French made him uniquely suited for espionage.

After being expelled from Egypt following the Suez Crisis, Cohen settled in Israel in 1957, where he worked as a translator and accountant, until the Israeli spy agency, Mossad, saw his potential.

By 1960, Eli Cohen was recruited for a mission that would become legendary. After training, he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, under the alias Kamal Amin Thaabet, a Syrian businessman. There, he built trust within the Syrian expatriate community, making contacts that would open doors into Syria’s political and military elite.

In 1962, Cohen made the risky move to Damascus, where he quickly became a trusted insider. His cover story was impeccable, and he used his connections to rise to the highest circles of power. When a Bathist coup in 1963 brought some of Eli Cohen’s Argentine contacts to power, his access grew even deeper.

Between 1961 and 1965, Cohen gathered crucial intelligence on Syrian military strategies, especially regarding the Golan Heights, a contested region of strategic importance to Israel. His access was so deep that he was considered for high-ranking positions, including deputy minister of defence.

This espionage was vital, particularly after a Ba’athist military coup in 1963 brought to power leaders who were Cohen’s former contacts from Argentina. Cohen’s intelligence significantly aided Israel’s preparedness in the years leading up to the Six-Day War of 1967.

Through him, Israel received vital intelligence on Syrian military plans and operations.

Eli Cohen’s success came at a price. Despite warnings from his Mossad handlers, he was careless with his radio transmissions, sending signals too frequently and at predictable times. This mistake gave Syrian counterintelligence the chance they needed.

In January 1965, Cohen was caught red-handed transmitting messages. After a brief trial, he was publicly executed in May that year.

In 2019, Netflix released The Spy, a limited series dramatising his years-long undercover operation in Syria, with Sacha Baron Cohen portraying Eli Cohen.

Recently, in a covert operation, Israel retrieved over 2,500 items from Syrian intelligence archives – documents, letters, photographs, personal effects, and mission records related to Eli Cohen’s work. These artefacts, including his handwritten letters to family, false passports, keys to his Damascus apartment, and mission briefings, were presented by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Cohen’s widow, Nadia.

  • Why The Internet Is Not Impressed With The Royals And Bridgerton Comparisons

There has been a buzz about how The Royals has been giving off a lowkey vibe of the popular Bridgerton-esque world.

he Royals led by Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar dropped on Netflix on May 9, 2025. The show has so far received mixed responses, while some are in awe of the royal backdrop imbued with jewels and the luxury of palace life, some were not impressed with the pace and the packaging of the show.

There has been a buzz about how The Royals has been giving off a lowkey vibe of the popular Bridgerton-esque world. To add to it, Netflix shared a scene-by-scene comparison of The Royals and Bridgerton yesterday, and the internet was not impressed.

Striking similarities in some of the scenes such as Ishaan riding a horse and then Jonathan Bailey doing the same in Season 2 of Bridgerton. Another shot showed Ishaan taking a dip in the pool as did Jonathan in Bridgerton. There was also a comparison of the ballroom dance sequence between Ishaan and Nora in The Royals with a similar one between Jonathan and Simone Ashley in the English series.

The caption of the post read, “I am a gentle-admin. My father raised me to act with honour, but that honour is hanging by a thread that grows more precarious with every moment I spend in their presence. They are the bane of my existence. And the object of all my desires.”

The internet flared up, one comment read, “One is a masterpiece and the other hasn’t even started properly, but it’s too polished to be released publicly – a disgrace for the writer. It felt like Naadaniyaan 2.0, another epic flop. Nora brought her charm, but she can only do so much with a shirtless guy (which worked, but only for two seconds). Sorry, but this isn’t even close to our Bridgerton on Netflix.”

Someone else commented, “Kaha Raja Bhojaur kaha Gangu Teli“, while someone else mentioned, “How dare you compare them.”

Another internet user added, “This is embarrassing”, while someone else remarked, “Jonathan is way hotter than Ishaan.”

The Royals also featured Nora Fatehi, Zeenat Aman, Vihaan Samat, and Sakshi Tanwar in key roles.
